Workshops
earth stories keeping a naturalist journal - next class dates to be announced
A workshop for novice or advanced artists and nature enthusiasts designed to encourage confidence and curiosity in the natural world. Participants will learn to be more fully aware of the specifics of a particular natural area through the process of observing and recording. Drawing will be taught as a tool to enhance “seeing” with tips such as: what to look for, how to simplify what you find without taking away what’s important for identification, taking good notes with words or images using awareness of all five senses, and experimenting with a variety of techniques (rubbings, tracings, printing, and local pigment studies) in order to create a memorable and interesting record of a place. At the conclusion of the class the journal pages will be hand-bound into a “finished” journal.

This workshop will take place over the course of five Sunday afternoons from 1pm until 5pm on location in Grenada and Leflore counties at the Tallahatchie National Wildlife Refuge and the Malmaison Wildlife Management Area.
