MARCH eastern screech owl, woolly pipe vine, pipevine swallowtail

The Screech Owl couple closes the deal on prime real estate - a decayed nook in a Bald Cypress tree. Just the right size for a first home, they nestle into the condominium curtained with flowering Pipevine. Waiting on her young to hatch she lucks up with a beautiful butterfly snack! As night falls, he goes out to shop for worms, frogs or maybe a songbird nearly his size. In the dark, they check in with each other across the swamp - eerie sounds mixed with moonlight!

1 of 3 in the SPRING Collection from Seasons of a Cypress - a series of 12 connected images. 9 images are currently complete.

The original images were created with Mississippi mud and plants and scanned to permanently capture the fresh bright colors of berries, flower petals and leaves pushed into the paper.

color sources to create include: poke salad leaves, red hill dirt, bitterweed, white throated day flower & burned meadow grass

They are stand alone designs or can be arranged as one large cypress tree. The images are in seasonal collections, each month featuring a bird/plant/insect relationship.

9 x 9 digital print, mounted with acid-free glue on book binder’s board, then mounted flush on a handmade pine frame, with 1 in depth.  Flush mount allows for side-by-side display, or for stand alone display on a bookshelf or table.
